A Herniated Disc is often referred to as a bulged or slipped disc. This occurs when the center of the disc bulges out into the rubbery exterior of the spinal disc. A herniated disc can occur anywhere along the spine, but is most often seen in the lower back or neck. When the disc is herniated, it may irritate a nearby nerve and cause weakness, numbness, or pain in your back, neck, arm or leg.
Symptoms of a herniated disc include:
- Pain in the thigh, calf, and buttocks
- Pain radiating down to the foot
- Shoulder or arm pain
- Pain when changing positions, sneezing or coughing
- Sharp or burning sensation
